A joint news release from Forest Research and the Forestry Commission is a reminder that the partnership between man and dog is an ancient and remarkable one. Sudden larch death is a devastating and commercially significant forestry disease caused by microscopic fungal-like organisms called Phytophthora ramorum and early identification of its presence by trained sniffer dogs could improve management and slow down the spread of the disease.
