In a bid to increase the rate of new woodland creation, Defra and the Forestry Commission (FC) have announced that the period over which the post-planting management payments will be made is increasing from 10 years to 15 years. That initiative follows a technical but potentially important change in how the FC consults other parties on new woodland creation aimed at simplifying and shortening the timeline of the consultation process. Anyone who has experienced the previous consultation process will welcome these changes and hope that the FC will implement them as soon as possible.
