Farming minister, Daniel Zeichner, has “remade” his decision to close the SFI 2024 scheme without notice on 11 March 2025. As a result, would-be applicants who had started an online application on or after 12 January 2025 will be given a six-week window in which to complete and submit their applications. Eligible applicants will be contacted by Defra and invited to complete their application.
The value of any agreements offered will be capped at £9,300 per farm business and other restrictions will also apply.
The change was announced in a ministerial statement on 12 May and the SFI 2024 scheme rules have been updated accordingly.
