Commissioner for the tenant farming sector

As we have previously reported (here and here) plans have been afoot for some time to appoint a commissioner for the tenant farming sector. Defra announced last week that the post has been filled by Alan Laidlaw, probably best known in England for his role with the Crown Estate, which has 121,000 acres of tenanted holdings, and in Scotland as the Chief Executive of The Royal Highland & Agricultural Society of Scotland, a charity best known for delivering the Royal Highland Show.

Our Mark Sanders is the RICS representative on the Farm Tenancy Forum (FTF), and looks forward to meeting the new commissioner at the next meeting of the FTF in October.
