Acorn Rural Property Consultants has obtained planning permission for a second agricultural workers’ dwelling on a farm in the Exmoor National Park. After the authority’s planning committee initially deferred determining the proposal, we were instructed to take over running the application and to prepare an appraisal to justify the proposed dwelling. Planning officers and the authority’s agricultural consultant recommended refusal, but the application was approved by the planning committee when it was presented to them again. In resolving to approve the dwelling, the committee agreed with our reasoning that it related to a full time essential need for the proper running of the farming business and that it complied with the authority’s planning policies.
