Every now and then a snippet of information come across our desks that is immediately eye catching and interesting. Today’s news from Defra that Devon-based company Fishtek Marine has been working on a new low impact scallop fishing method using “scallop discos” definitely meets that test. The Defra press release also includes the fascinating information that scallops have 200 eyes. For any technically minded readers, the full research paper is Scallop potting with lights_ A novel, low impact method for catching European king scallop (Pecten maximus). It is good to have a reminder every now and then that many good things come out of Devon.
