Planning permission has been secured by Acorn Rural Property Consultants for the reconstruction of a collapsed traditional barn for business use in an AONB.
The original building benefitted from planning permission for conversion and change of use. The structure, however, partially collapsed during the conversion works. The initial consent did not extend to rebuilding, which meant that the approved development could not be completed. Depending on the end use, this type of event can leave only a limited prospect of obtaining planning permission to reconstruct a building since such work is assessed against planning policy that applies to new buildings. In this case, we successfully demonstrated for our client that the reconstruction of the building complied with local planning authority’s policies. The planning authority agreed with us and granted consent.
